Nowadays, aluminum salts are used in a ton of deodorants and antiperspirants. They’re supposed to shrink your sweat glands and therefore – well – make you sweat less throughout the day. Is it just a myth or is it a scientifically accurate information that deodorants containing aluminum salts can increase your risk of getting breast cancer? As far as I am informed, the connection between breast cancer and the use of those deodorants hasn’t fully been proved yet – still, there’s lots of warning signals. For example, in the last years breast cancer has been found conspicuously often in the upper outer quadrant of the breast – the area that’s closest to your armpit. Scientist also believe that aluminum can mess with your DNA as well as your hormones, especially oestrogen, in the longrun.
To sum it up: I’m neither a scientist nor some sort of alarmist, but why take a risk if you can avoid it? I did a quick research on deodorants sold in German drugstores (and probably elsewhere in Europe as well). I found lots of brands that do not use aluminum in their deodorants, CD, Sebamed, Lavera, Weleda, Dr. Hauschka, Speick, and Balea Med are just a few of them. If you don’t want to take a risk, just check the list of ingrendients on your deodorant. If it contains aluminum (or aluminium in British english), it will say so. I have decided to buy aluminum-free deodorants from now on. I’ve bought one by Sebamed and so far I’m quite pleased with it. If you’ve found the ultimate aluminum-free and yet effective deodorant – let all of us know in the comments 🙂
Have a great week, everybody!
